Backcountry Ethics / Littering:
Littering of any kind is prohibited. The Forest Service has been extremely supportive and it is imperative that we show them we can hold an event like this and be good stewards of our trails. Please help us to gain permission to host this unique event again in the future by pocketing your gels, bars, baggies, bottles, tubes, etc. DO NOT THROW ANYTHING ON THE GROUND! Pack it in, pack it out! Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Backcountry Weather:
This race takes place at altitudes above 10,000 feet and you will enjoy some of the most pristine riding terrain in Colorado. With that said, you can expect to experience a wide spectrum of weather conditions. Be prepared for the worst. At least have extra gear, clothing, and supplies stashed at Carter Park so you can adjust to changing conditions. Sunscreen is recommended.
Race Preparation / Hydration:
The crew at Carvers Sports loves to ride bikes – the longer the better! Swing by 203 N. Main St. to stock up on trail food, and get information about the race or local trails. They are also offering 20% off on parts and service, and providing mechanical service at the race. Thanks Carvers Sports! Stop by and say hi to Thad, Eli and the crew.
This will be a long day in the saddle, and hydration is important. You will be at altitude and need more liquids than usual. Pre-race hydration is key. Drink plenty of water the day before. A chamois cream or balm of some type is recommended.
Carter Park:
Aid Station / Team Transition Zone / Medical / Staging Area
Carter Park will be Race Headquarters during the day. Riders may stage their own supplies there.
Tents in Carter Park:
Tents may be set up in Carter Park but must follow these very strict guidelines when weighting down the tent! Tents cannot be staked down, you must use official tent weights with 40 lbs on each leg. You must follow the fire department tent policy or the fire marshal will require that it be taken down.
